Verkiai Manor

Verkiai Manor is one of the oldest and most beautiful manor complexes in the Vilnius area, situated on the right bank of the Neris River, about 10 km from the city centre. The Neoclassical ensemble was built in the late 18th century for the Bishop of Vilnius, Ignacy Massalski. Today it is a popular destination for rest, walks, and nature, attracting both locals and visitors. The complex comprises the Grand and Small Palaces (both residences still standing), a chapel, a landscaped park, and scenic surroundings. The main Grand Palace suffered damage through history, but the Small Palace and park layout have been well preserved. The complex lies within Verkiai Regional Park, surrounded by forests, meadows, and the Neris River valley. Observation Point Near the manor, atop a high hill, sits an observation point — one of the most beautiful viewpoints in all of Vilnius. From here, a sweeping panorama opens over the Neris River valley, green slopes, and the distant city skyline. It is especially stunning at sunset or early morning when mist settles in the valley below. Well-maintained trails lead from the manor to the viewpoint — about 10–15 minutes on foot. Verkiai Mill Right next to the manor complex stands Verkiai Mill — a restored historic watermill on the Verkiai stream. It is one of the most authentic sites of its kind in the Vilnius area. The mill complements the romantic atmosphere of the manor and makes a wonderful photography subject. Visitors often combine both sites into a single walk. Practical Information The manor complex is accessible year-round. Park trails are suitable for hiking and cycling. Verkiai is reachable by public transport (buses from the city centre) and by car — free parking is available. The visit suits the whole family: a peaceful setting, fresh air, and architecture that recalls centuries of history.
