Vilnius Portal
The Vilnius Portal (Vilniaus portalas) is an extraordinary interactive art installation on Town Hall Square that directly connects Vilnius with the Polish city of Lublin via a live video link. Two large circular screens – one in Vilnius, one in Lublin – show the other city's square in real time, creating a "portal" between the two cities. The installation draws many visitors who delight in the ability to see and interact with people in another city. Vilnius residents and tourists wave at the Lubliners, dance in front of the screen, or simply observe everyday life in Lublin. The Portal operates 24 hours a day and is free. This ever-changing project creates a rare feeling of urban connection through technology. Town Hall Square , where it stands, is one of the most vibrant spaces in Vilnius Old Town.
