Antakalnis: Seasons and Art | A Guided Tour in Vilnius

In the shadow of the baroque churches and palaces of Antakalnis lies a much younger layer of this district's past, so this time, meeting in Antakalnis, we will search for traces of the 20th century. And that century was a colourful one, so there will be a whole medley of stories! In tsarist times, members of secret organisations gathered here; in the Polish interwar period a psychiatric hospital was established; longtime residents rushed to buy up the monks' lands; and in the Soviet era artists began moving to Antakalnis – writers, poets, painters, sculptors and musicians. They walked along streets named after the seasons and pagan Lithuanian goddesses, climbed Crow Hill and drew inspiration, and the past of Antakalnis settled into their works, preserving that special aura. So the stories of this walk will not be all that old – in fact, you may even hear about acquaintances of yours who lived in Antakalnis. ⌚️ Duration of the tour: about 2 hours. 🐘 Start of the tour: on the front steps of the Čiurlionis Gymnasium (Kosciuškos St.) ✨ End of the tour: the beginning of Mildos St. Please do not be late and keep a copy of your ticket saved on your phone.
