PASAULIS BE SUBTITRŲ (N16)

Talking about autism.

Where words are not enough, hand shadow theatre speaks. The hand shadow theatre performance "Pasaulis be subtitrų" tells the story of a young man with autism spectrum disorder. Despite finding an oasis of calm in the water, the young man is forced to confront social challenges on land – endless questions, information overload, rules of conduct, and constant pressure to fit in. The fragmented structure of the performance opens the door to the memories of a person with autism spectrum disorder, allowing insight into their daily life. His greatest desire is to be understood. Perhaps we are not so different after all?

The play is based on Naoki Higashida's book "The Reason I Jump," which became an important voice in the conversation about the autism spectrum. The young man's experiences on stage transform into a sensitive narrative about neurodiversity, the pressure to conform, and the right to be oneself.
